Snow leads to school cancellations and municipal delays in Cape Breton

Several schools in Cape Breton are closed today due to unsafe road conditions following snowfall across the region.

As of early this morning, classes are cancelled at the following schools:

  • Bayview Education Centre

  • Cape Breton Highlands Education Centre/Academy

  • Dalbrae Academy

  • Inverness Education Centre/Academy

  • Pleasant Bay School

Parents and guardians are advised to monitor their school board’s usual communication channels for any further updates as conditions change through the day.

Municipal services in Inverness County are also affected.

The Municipality of Inverness County says all municipal facilities will delay opening this morning to allow crews time to clear snow and ensure safe access.

The Port Hood Administration Building, Recreation and Community Wellness Building, Strathlorne Recycling Facility and Kenloch Waste Management Facility are tentatively scheduled to open at 10 a.m., though officials say that timing will be reassessed as conditions evolve.

The municipality is asking residents to continue checking its website and social media for updates and thanks the public for its patience as crews work to improve conditions.
