Long-time councillor remembered for kindness, dedication

A long-time councillor in Inverness County has died.

Gloria Marie LeBlanc died Dec. 17 at the age of 88.

She served as councillor for District 2 (Margaree/St. Joseph du Moine) for 19 years.

Warden Bonny MacIsaac described LeBlanc as a remarkable woman who touched the lives of many.

“She was a shining example of strength, kindness and dedication,” MacIsaac said in a statement on behalf of the municipality of Inverness County. “As a nurse, devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she made a meaningful difference in the lives of those around her.”

MacIsaac said LeBlanc was a steadfast advocate for the residents she represented, working tirelessly to address the issues that mattered most to her community.

“Her unwavering dedication, sharp wit, and strong will made her a respected and formidable presence, and her legacy will continue to inspire those who follow in her footsteps,” MacIsaac said.

According to an obituary at Cheticamp Funeral Services, LeBlanc was marVried to Harry for 65 years. The couple had four children: Darrell, Steve, Shaun and Brenda.

She is survived by Harry, her son Steve (Linda) LeBlanc and daughter Brenda (John) Burton and daughter-in-law Priscilla LeBlanc, 14 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her sons Darrell and Shaun LeBlanc, her parents Mary and William Matheson, her grandson Dylan LeBlanc and her granddaughter Sherri LeBlanc.

Visitation will take place Dec. 22 from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Belle Côte Community Centre. A funeral mass will be held Dec. 23 at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph Church, St. Joseph du Moine with a reception to follow at the Belle Côte Community Centre.
