An emergency alert was issued for Antigonish County.
RCMP say two men believed to be armed are in Pomquet Forks.
They abandoned a vehicle and ran away near 124 Heatherton village road.
Residents were asked to stay inside and close and lock doors and windows and not to pick up hitch hikers or provide a ride to anyone else.
The public was also asked to not tell anyone where police may be.
One man is in custody safely at 12:50 p.m. in Antigonish County.
At 2:00 p.m., the second man was safely arrested by RCMP.
Police say there is no longer a public safety risk.
The alert is over for Antigonish County.
