Federal government commits more funding to Jordan’s Principle

The federal government is committing $1.55 billion towards Jordan’s Principal Funding over the next year.

Indigenous Services Minister Mandy Gull-Masty made the announcement Thursday afternoon in Ottawa.

“The demand has gone up…I’m going to say (funding) it’s about on par,” Gull-Masty said during a press conference on Parliament Hill.

“You know, it’s been a decade of funding Jordan’s Principle, it’s quite substantive. I think it’s in the range of $10 billion.”

Gull-Masty says the funding will be available until the end of March 2027.

“The certainly is in place. I think everybody here is aware there’s a new budgeting process in place while we waited for answers. We were able to do the important work of doing the outreach. For me, that is the critical step.”

Gull-Masty says they will also be announcing reform of the program in the weeks ahead but wanted to ensure there was continuity in the funding.
