Former StFX football player committed to stand trial on third sexual assault charge

One of two former members of the X-Men football team charged following a sexual assault investigation at StFX is expected to stand trial on a third charge.

Jonah Williams, 20, of Halifax has been charged with three counts of sexual assault against two different women; Tyler Ball, 19, of Truro faces a single count of sexual assault in the case.

Both had election-and-plea hearings in Antigonish Provincial Court Feb. 7; they elected Nova Scotia Supreme Court judge-and-jury trials, Williams on two of his charges, and Ball on his only count.

They’re scheduled to return to court for preliminary inquiries June 11-12.

Williams, who was expected for election-and-plea on his remaining charge Wednesday, is expected back for trial Aug. 13.

The pair played defensive back for StFX- Williams was in the team’s starting line-up, Ball wasn’t.

Neither Williams nor Ball are still with the X-Men football program.

RCMP say an 18-year-old told them she was sexually assaulted on campus in November; that led a 19-year-old to come forward and report two separate cases of sexual assault on campus.
