UPDATE: RCMP still searching for man with machete seen near Musquodoboit Harbour

After a scary night for many in Musquodoboit Harbour, an emergency alert has been canceled, but police are still searching for a man armed with a machete.

It was around 8 p.m. Tuesday when police sent out the first emergency alert warning of a dangerous man carrying a machete in the area.

Just before 9 p.m., they said the man was last seen on Petpeswick Drive in the Gaetz Brook area.

A final alert was sent around 11 p.m.

Police said there was no longer any risk to the public, but officers would stay in the area as they searched for the man.

The RCMP said they have no information to support criminal charges at this time, according to an emailed statement from Wednesday morning. They say they still do not believe the man poses any risk to the public.
