Man charged after fleeing from police in Antigonish County

A Stellarton man has been charged after fleeing from police in Antigonish County on Monday, May 11 around 9 p.m.

RCMP say when an officer attempted to stop a truck with its taillights off on Hwy. 245 near Maryvale, the driver sped up and drove off.

The officer chose to not pursue the vehicle for the interest of public safety.

Shortly after, police found the truck abandoned in a parking lot on Old Maryvale Rd.

Officers searched the area and heard noise coming from a wooded area nearby.

When asked to present themselves, a man and a woman exited the woods, and both were safely arrested.

The 31-year-old driver of the truck has been charged with fleeing from police and was issued several traffic tickets.

He was released with conditions and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

The woman was released without any charges.
