It is with profound sadness that the family announces the death of Angus Dan MacRae, 85 of Port Hawkesbury on Wednesday, May 20th 2026 at Strait Richmond Hospital. 

Born in Baddeck, Cape Breton he was the son of Hector and Sadie MacLeod MacRae. Angus was predeceased by his parents, wife of 54 years Ruth in 2023 and son Greg in 2007. Father and mother-in-law Norman and Kaye (Campbell) MacLean, brother Sandy, sisters-in-law Norma Bernard, Philene MacRitchie, brothers-in-laws Edwin Ross and George MacRitchie and nephew Kevin MacRae. He is survived by son Richard (Jayde), daughter-in-law Audrey MacRae, granddaughters Sophia and Sadie who were near and dear to his heart. Brothers, Philip, David (Anne) and sister-in-law’s Murdena MacRae and Mary Ross, brothers-in-law Donald(Lillian) MacLean and Denis Bernard. Several nieces and nephews. Angus also leaves behind treasured neighbours and friends Mary and Roy Smith. 

Dad worked as a district supervisor for Nova Scotia Power until he retired in 1993. Too young to settle down he became a locksmith and had a second career where he enjoyed travelling around the area meeting new people. Angus loved volunteering as a proud member of the Port Hawkesbury Lions Club, long-time member & past master of St. Marks Lodge #35 Baddeck and a member of the board of St. Mark’s United Church. The post office was his water cooler where he found what was what’s happening in and around town. Grampie love telling everyone about his special girls, Sophia and Sadie and how proud they made him every day. 

There will be a family graveside service at Southbrook Cemetery Port Hawkesbury at a later date. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home Port Hawkesbury.
