Ever been told something and then immediately regret hearing it? That’s what happened to me over the weekend when my 13-year-old sister told me there are things called “toe biters” that live in lakes in Nova Scotia.
They’re actually called giant water beetles, and they are gross and awful! They live at the bottom of lakes all across the country and are also mobile… they can fly!! I’ve been swimming in lakes for years but have never seen one or been bitten by one. If you ever are, you should be fine, as they’re not poisonous, but they apparently can hurt you quite badly!
FYI they’re also attracted to lights and like to snack on fish and even frogs!
The stuff of nightmares!
