Beautifying Antigonish with a new mural that showcases the Town

This year’s winning mural has been unveiled by Antigonish Culture Alive (ACA) and the Town of Antigonish through the Antigonish Public Art Program.

The contest calls for submissions of mural concepts on a specific theme through the Antigonish Public Art Program hosted each year by the arts and culture non-profit organization ACA and the Town.

Local artist Qi Cai portrayed the Town’s Centennial Anniversary of the Antigonish Electric Utility by displaying current energy and nature, historic buildings and future growth.

“Even as the town grows, it will always stay colorful, green and connected to nature, because that balance is what makes this place beautiful [and] special,” she shares.

“But none of this would be here without the giant light bulb behind us. Thank you to Antigonish Electric Utility for a hundred years of quietly helping this town shine.”

Cai says it’s her dream to have a mural in the Town and she was so happy to be chosen.

She tells us what influenced her artwork and love for the Town.

“I love the historic buildings. I love the history, culture, friendly people, and beautiful nature. And, the hope. So, that’s my idea for this. It’s all in this painting, basically,” she expresses.

She looks forward to her daughter pointing out her mural along Bay Street to her classmates saying her mom painted it.

Her other works are available to be viewed at her own Qi Cai Gallery in Pomquet and on her Instragram.
