With broken hearts, we announce the sudden passing of Linda Mary Byard, age 78, of Canso, who passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at Eastern Memorial Hospital with her husband by her side.

Born to the late Davina and George Ross, Linda was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Howard (Ricky) Byard.

Linda will be deeply missed by her daughter, Marion; her sons, Andrew (Liz), Ronnie (Kim), and Jermaine (Kristen); and her cherished grandchildren, Justin, Bradley, Nick, Kyle, Evan, Ryan, Blake, Myra, Addilyn, and Tessa. She also leaves behind her beloved great-grandchildren, Jake, Charlie, Brooklyn, Josie, Leo, Addison, Maidyn, Bella and Briar.

She is also survived by her sister, Sandra Ross, her nephews, Kenny and Josh; her father-in-law, Howard W. Byard; brothers- and sisters-in-law Calvin (Diana), Dewayne (Patsy), Steve, Jeffrey (Shawna), Perry (Nancy), Sandra (Michael), Doreen (James), Phyllis (Aladin), Marion, Clifford, and Travis; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and Jessica, Myra’s mother.

Besides her parents, Linda was predeceased by her brother, Andrew, who passed away at 18 months of age, and by her mother-in-law, Josephine Byard.

Linda’s favorite place was at her kitchen table, gazing out the window at the water she loved so much. She treasured time spent with family and friends and especially enjoyed gathering everyone together for a meal, a visit, and making lasting memories. Her home was always a welcoming place filled with warmth, laughter, and love.

 A funeral service will take place at the Canso United Baptist Church on Sunday June 21, 2026 at 1pm followed by a Repass at the Canso Firehall. Burial and a celebration of Linda’s life will be held at a later date.
