Nova Scotians can now access some lab test results faster through the YourHealthNS app.
The province says certain results will be available within 24 hours of being processed, down from the previous seven-day wait.
The change is now in effect.
It mainly applies to blood and urine test results available through YourHealthNS.
Diagnostic imaging reports available through the app will continue to be released 14 days after they have been verified.
Health Minister Michelle Thompson says the change is meant to make it easier for people to access their own health information.
“We’re continuing to make it easier for Nova Scotians to access their own health information,” Thompson said. “Having timely access to lab test records helps people stay informed and play a more active role in their care.”
The province says the move brings Nova Scotia in line with other Canadian jurisdictions.
About 3,000 people log in to YourHealthNS each day to view their records.
The province says users view an average of 10 records per login.
Lab and diagnostic imaging records make up about 60 per cent of all health records viewed through the app.
The change is part of Nova Scotia’s broader digital health work, which also includes virtual care, e-referrals, the Care Co-ordination Centre and the One Person One Record clinical information system.
