A German aerospace company has signed a ten-year deal with the company who runs a spaceport near Canso, Nova Scotia.
In a news release, Tuesday, Maritime Launch Services says the contract was signed with Isar Aerospace to develop a dedicated launch complex, for its vehicle called Spectrum.
The launch site will be provided by Spaceport Nova Scotia, which is run by Maritime Launch Services. The company received a $200 million investment from the federal government earlier this year to eventually send satellites into space.
Last month, the first test rockets successfully launched into space.
According to the release, Isar is planning to start construction this year, with first orbital launches on target for 2028.
“We are excited to partner with Maritime Launch Services and launch Spectrum from Spaceport Nova Scotia. Together, we have moved from intention to execution at the pace global demand for space access requires,” says Alexandre Dalloneau, Vice President Mission and Launch Operations, Isar Aerospace.
Maritime Launch will receive quarterly payments of US$3.75 million for the term of the agreement.
“This agreement represents another important milestone in building Canada’s sovereign launch capability,” says Stepehen Matier, President and CEO of Maritime Launch Services.
The deal is the next step of the letter of intent signed by both parties in May.
