Antigonish awards phase 3 contract for Active Transportation Trail

The Town of Antigonish is moving ahead with the next phase of its Active Transportation Trail project.

The Town says Council has awarded the construction contract for Phase Three of a four phase project to B.D. Clifton Contracting Limited. The project carries a price tag of just over $834,000, plus HST.

The work includes a new asphalt multi-use trail and the replacement of the existing sidewalk to improve accessibility and mobility.

Drawing to a close is Phase Two which runs from the east end of Main Street to the railway tracks alongside the Bay Street Project.

Phase Three will see the trail stretch between Church Street to Columbus Field before eventually connecting to Main Street near the tennis courts in the final phase. Construction of Phase Three is expected to take approximately eight weeks.

Antigonish Town Mayor, Sean Cameron, anticipates construction of the next phase to be completed by early September.

First announced in 2021, the project is being supported through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program, with nearly $3 million in combined federal and provincial funding.
