Karen MacKinnon will represent Port Hawkesbury at Provincial Volunteer Awards

The 52nd Annual Provincial Volunteer Awards will take place in Halifax on September 28, and Karen MacKinnon has been selected to represent the Town of Port Hawkesbury.

Karen has spent countless hours giving back to the community and helping make Port Hawkesbury and the surrounding area a better place to live. Her volunteer efforts have touched many organizations and initiatives over the years.

For more than a decade, Karen has served on the board of the Leeside Society and played a key role in developing the playground at Tamarac Education Centre. She currently serves as President of PHAST (Port Hawkesbury Antigonish Swim Team), helping support local athletes and families.

As a cancer survivor, Karen has also dedicated her time to supporting others through the Canadian Cancer Society. She previously chaired the local Relay for Life and continues to volunteer with the annual Terry Fox Run in Port Hawkesbury.

Karen has also contributed to local recreation through her past service on the board of the Strait Area Curling Club. Her leadership, generosity, and commitment to helping others have made a lasting difference in our community.
