Environment Canada warns of strong Les Suêtes winds in Inverness County

Environment Canada is warning residents in Inverness County that damaging winds are expected.

Strong southeast winds, known in the region as Les Suêtes, could reach gusts of up to 100 km/h starting early Sunday morning and continuing into early Sunday afternoon.

Environment Canada says people in the Grand Étang area should secure loose outdoor items and be prepared for changing conditions.

Wind warnings are issued when there is a significant risk of damaging winds. According to The Weather Network, Les Suêtes events typically last three to six hours, but can be as short as one hour.

During these events, they say that driving along the Cabot Trail can be treacherous due to the effects of the Cape Breton Highlands on wind conditions.
