La famille LeBlanc Keeps Acadian Tradition Alive: One Song at a Time

For lovers of East Coast Canadian music, few groups capture the heart and soul of Acadian culture quite like la famille LeBlanc of northern New Brunswick. Blending centuries-old Acadian melodies with Celtic influences and contemporary arrangements, the award-winning family ensemble has become one of Atlantic Canada’s most captivating traditional music acts.

Rooted in Tétagouche-Nord, near Bathurst, la famille LeBlanc has built a reputation for preserving musical traditions while introducing them to a new generation of listeners. Their performances are filled with infectious reels, heartfelt ballads, rich harmonies and exceptional musicianship that transport audiences through the history of Acadia.

The group features parents Robin LeBlanc and Rébecca Huot alongside their daughters Charlotte, Rosalie, and Mélodie. Together they create a distinctive sound using fiddle, concertina, Irish whistle, piano, percussion and soaring family vocals. Every performance is both a concert and a celebration of Acadian heritage.

Robin LeBlanc’s passion for traditional music was shaped through years of travel and musical exploration. After studying in France, learning Cape Breton fiddling and researching forgotten tunes throughout Atlantic Canada, he began collecting rare Acadian melodies that might otherwise have disappeared. That lifelong dedication became the foundation for la famille LeBlanc when the family began performing together in 2016.

Their international journey started almost immediately. The family represented Acadian culture at festivals in France and South Korea before releasing their debut album, Trois jolies demoiselles, in 2020. The recording introduced audiences to beautifully arranged traditional songs and earned a nomination for East Coast Music Awards Trad/Folk Album of the Year. Since then, the ensemble has continued to build an impressive reputation throughout Canada and beyond. They claimed an East Coast Music Award in May, 2026 for Francophone Artist of the Year.

The group’s sophomore release, Perdrais-je mon temps?, expanded their musical palette while remaining firmly rooted in Acadian traditions. Their growing popularity has also brought significant recognition, including the ROSEQ Award at FrancoFête en Acadie in 2023, being named Acadie Nouvelle’s Cultural Personality of the Year, and receiving multiple nominations at the Canadian Folk Music Awards.

One of the qualities that makes la famille LeBlanc stand apart is their commitment to uncovering rarely performed traditional music. Rather than relying solely on well-known folk standards, the family researches forgotten songs and melodies dating back to the 19th century, breathing new life into pieces that have largely disappeared from modern performance. Their concerts feel both historically authentic and refreshingly vibrant.

East Coast audiences have another reason to celebrate. The family recently released Amourette, their newest album, featuring another collection of traditional Acadian songs interpreted with the warmth and energy that has become their trademark. The project showcases the continued musical growth of the ensemble while remaining faithful to the traditions that inspired them.

Their touring schedule continues to grow as well. This summer, la famille LeBlanc is appearing at several festivals and concert series across Canada, including performances celebrating Acadian music and culture. One featured appearance is at the National Arts Centre’s “The Feeling of Free” programming in Ottawa this August, introducing audiences from across the country to the richness of Acadian musical traditions. They will be performing at The Stan Rogers International Folk Festival this year, before heading to France and Switzerland for shows in August.

For anyone who loves the music of Atlantic Canada, la famille LeBlanc offers an unforgettable experience. Their concerts combine remarkable instrumental performances, beautiful family harmonies, humour, storytelling and genuine warmth. Whether performing in an intimate theatre or on a major festival stage, they remind audiences that traditional music is far more than history, it is a living, breathing expression of family, community and identity.

At a time when preserving cultural traditions has never been more important, la famille LeBlanc continues to prove that Acadian music is thriving. Their passion for sharing these songs ensures that the next generation of East Coast music lovers will discover the same joy found in melodies that have echoed through Acadian communities for centuries.

If you’ve never experienced la famille LeBlanc live, add them to your must-see list. Their music isn’t simply performed, it is lived, shared and celebrated, making every concert an invitation to become part of Atlantic Canada’s remarkable musical story.
