Adsum House calls out MLA over songs they call misogynistic

A Halifax organization that supports women and children is criticizing Pictou West MLA Marco MacLeod over songs he created in the past that they say are misogynistic.

Adsum House released a statement last week, arguing that the content raises serious concerns about accountability in public office. The organization pointed to rising rates of gender-based violence in Canada and said harmful messages should not be overlooked.

MacLeod responded with a handwritten apology note posted on social media, describing the songs as mistakes and saying they do not reflect who he is today.

Adsum maintains that content promoting misogyny can have lasting impacts regardless of when it was created, and suggested such behaviour should be taken into consideration when evaluating elected officials.

MacLeod says he regrets his actions and is committed to making things right.
