Tickets are on sale now for RIDGE, a tribute to the Battle of Vimy Ridge.

After performing at theatres across Canada, Brendan McLeod and The Fugitives are bringing RIDGE to Guysborough on November 17 for one show only. RIDGE combines historical WWI stories, powerful lyrics and music from The Fugitives’ 2022 JUNO nominated album Trench Songs into a poignant and thought-provoking theatre show.

RIDGE examines misconceptions and varying perspectives around the battle of Vimy Ridge, while drawing parallels to other formative events in our nation’s past. Featuring innovative musical interpretations of Trench songs, RIDGE probes difficult yet necessary questions about how and why we grieve. Written by frontline soldiers during WW1, Trench songs were often parodies of well-known tunes. The songs accompany the WWI storytelling and thought-provoking narrative McLeod provides, resulting in a vivid, kinetic ride through history, as well as an intimate, personal examination of our connection to the past.

Often called “the battle that made Canada”, Vimy Ridge resulted in over 10,000 Canadian casualties. RIDGE is a visceral work that passionately argues against the exploitation of young lives.

The Fugitives are a folk-roots group headed by Adrian Glynn and Brendan McLeod, with banjo player Chris Suen and violinist Carly Frey. The band has amassed a 6 CFMA nominations, and toured throughout Canada, Europe, and the UK.

The 75-minute show will take place on November 17 at 7:30pm at the Mulgrave Road Theatre Centre for the Arts, 10559 NS-16 in Guysborough. Pay-What-You-Can tickets are available at www.mulgraveroad.ca or by calling 902-533-2092.

Mulgrave Road Theatre is generously supported by the Canada Council for the Arts, Province of Nova Scotia, Arts Nova Scotia, and the Municipality of the District of Guysborough, and funded in part by Veterans Affairs Canada’s Commemorative Partnership Program.
