Man arrested in Port Hawkesbury bust expect back in court in January

A suspect charged in relation to a drug bust in Port Hawkesbury has had a date set for his trial.

RCMP say officers searched a home in the town in August.

They say they seized dexamphetamine, marijuana, marijuana plants, hashish and other evidence.

James Kenneth MacLean, 53, faces three charges in the case- possession for the purpose of trafficking marijuana and cannabis resin and production of marijuana.

The Port Hawkesbury man, who entered not guilty pleas in the case, had a Jan. 22 trial date set, which is for a charter hearing as part of his trial, in Nova Scotia Supreme Court in Port Hawkesbury Friday; the balance of his trial is expected to take place April 23, 2019.

MacLean was convicted of three break-and-enter-related charges and two breaches in 2013; he was sentenced to 12 months in custody and 15 months of probation.
