Mulgrave councillors pass motion regarding plastic bags

Town councillors in Mulgrave have passed a motion dealing with plastic bags in Guysborough Co.

Councillors unanimously passed a resolution to support a call by their counterparts in the Municipality of the District of Guysborough to call for a ban of single-use plastic bags in the county at Monday night’s regular town council meeting.

After the meeting, Ralph Hadley, the town’s mayor, said the motion was a no-brainer.

“It’s a good resolution to do that- the plastic is not breaking down into the landfills,” he said. “It’s getting into rivers and oceans and beaches- more of an eyesore.”

Hadley said he hopes retailers in the area follow their suggestion and eliminate the use of plastic bags in their stores.
