Inverness Co. musician serving jail term after breaching conditional sentence

An Inverness Co. musician is behind bars for breaching his conditional sentence following his sex-related conviction.

Gerry Deveau, 84, of Belle Cote was arrested following an incident in Inverness Co. in 2010.

Deveau received 12 months of house arrest and 12 months of probation; he was also placed on the sex offender registry for 10 years during a sentencing hearing in Port Hawkesbury Provincial Court in March.

A Port Hawkesbury Crown Attorneys’ Office spokesperson says he was convicted of failing to travel to a scheduled appointment by most direct route; he was sentenced to six months in jail in April.

Deveau, known as “The Spoon Man”, was 76-years-old at the time of the Saint Joseph du Moine incident; the complainant was 10.

He has played numerous stages through the years, including 58 years at the Broad Cove Scottish Concert.
