Municipal officials and volunteers wait for cold weather for outdoor rink

Antigonish’s mayor says plans for an outdoor skating rink are moving ahead.

Town councillors announced their support for the project at last month’s regular meeting.

The temporary rink will be on one of the ballfields at Dr. John Hugh Gillis High School.

After Monday night’s monthly meeting, Laurie Boucher, mayor, said all they’re missing is the right weather.

“Now we’re just waiting for the cold weather,” she said. “You want nice weather, but we’re not going to have a skating rink with nice weather so we want cold, crisp weather.”

Boucher said they had a lot of volunteers at a recent meeting; there was also a lot of interest from people who weren’t able to attend the meeting.
