Local sports preview (Saturday)

There’s a double-header in the Richmond Amateur Baseball Association.

The Isle Madame Mariners host the St. Peter’s Royals.

The Mariners (5-1) are tied with Inverness for top spot in the six-team league, two games up on third-place Little Anse; the Royals (1-5) are last, a half-game behind fifth-place Petit-de-Grat.

The teams haven’t met yet in 2018.

First pitch in the twin bill at the Petit-de-Grat Ballfield is 1 p.m.

 

Three local teams are at home in the Nova Scotia Soccer League.

The Antigonish Celtics host Halifax City in the U17 boys division at 1 p.m.

The Celtics (2-2-0) are tied with Bedford for third in the eight-team division, six points behind the two teams tied for first; winless Halifax City (0-3-2) is last with two points.

It’s the first league game between the teams.

In the U13 boys division, the Antigonish Celtics-Marlow host Dunbrack at 1 p.m. and the Antigonish Celtics-Read host United DFC at 2:30 p.m.

The winless Celtics-Marlow (0-2-0) are last in the 10-team division, a point back of two teams tied for eighth; Dunbrack is third (2-1-2) with eight points.

The Celtics-Read (0-0-1), who are also winless, have one point, and are tied with Halifax Co. for eighth, a point behind Halifax City for seventh, and a point ahead of the last-place Celtics-Marlow; United DFC (6-0-0) sits in top spot with a perfect record and 18 points.
