Local sports preview (Thursday)

There are a pair of games in the Richmond Amateur Baseball Association.

The Petit-de-Grat Red Caps host the Little Anse Hawks.

The Hawks (6-6) are third in the six-team league, two-and-a-half games behind second-place Isle Madame, and a game-and-a-half ahead of the fourth-place Red Caps (5-8).

It’s the third game between the teams- they’ve split the first two.

First pitch at the Petit-de-Grat Ballfield is 6 p.m.

The Port Hawkesbury Bucs visit the St. Peter’s Royals in a match-up of teams at the bottom of the standings.

The Bucs (3-7) and Royals (3-7) are tied for fifth, a half-game behind Petit-de-Grat for fourth.

Port Hawkesbury swept a double-header between the teams at home in June.

First pitch at the St. Peter’s Ballfield is 6:15 p.m.

 

Two local teams are in action in the Highland Soccer League.

Strait United and Fundy United meet in U17 girls action in Stellarton.

Strait United (0-1-0) lost their only league game of the season; it’s the first league game for Fundy United (0-0-0).

The Antigonish Celtics visit Fundy United in the U15 girls division.

The Celtics (0-1-1) are winless; it’s the first league game for Fundy United (0-0-0).

Both games get underway at 6:30 p.m.

 

There are a pair of games involving local teams in the Nova Scotia Soccer League.

The Antigonish Celtics host the Truro CC Riders in U17A boys soccer at 6:30 p.m.

The Celtics (2-3-1) are fifth in the eight-team division with seven points, three points behind Bedford for fourth, and two points ahead of United DFC and Halifax Dunbrack, who are tied for sixth; the Riders (6-0-0), who have a perfect record, are in top spot with 18 points.

It’s the second league game of the season between the teams; the Riders shutout the Celtics 3-0 in Truro in June.

The Antigonish Celtics-Read travel to Halifax to face Dunbrack in U13A boys action at 7:30 p.m.

The Celtics (2-0-1), who are undefeated, are in a three-way tie with Central and Halifax Co. for fifth in the 10-team division with seven points, two points behind Bedford for fourth, and a point ahead of eighth-place South Shore; Dunbrack (3-2-2) is third with 11 points.

It’s the first league game of the season between the teams.
