Inverness Co. drug bust suspect committed to stand trial

A man arrested following a traffic stop in Inverness Co. is scheduled to return to court in August.

John Clayton “Clay” MacDonald, 77, faces a pair of charges- possession and possession for the purpose of trafficking oxycodone.

MacDonald, who elected a Nova Scotia Supreme Court judge-and-jury trial during an election-and-plea hearing in January, was committed to stand trial following a preliminary inquiry in Port Hawkesbury Provincial Court Thursday.

He’s expected to have a date set for that trial Aug. 10.

Police say they arrested a passenger when they stopped a car on Rte. 19 in Judique North and seized oxycodone in Aug. 2017.

They say they didn’t charge the driver.
