The senior climatologist at Environment Canada says we had a great summer in the Quad Counties.
David Phillips says we may have gotten a little too much summer with the heat and humidity; July and August were some of the warmest we’ve had.
Phillips tells The Hawk summer seemed to start slow when June rolled in.
“There was a lot more rain than you normally get- I think people were feeling a little moroseness, thinking well, wow, this is not good,” he says. “Then all of a sudden, it came in a glorious bout of July [and] August.”
Phillips says days above 25 degrees doubled from 2017.
He says we should be happy the weather was good during “vacation time.”
“It was consistently nice- you kept waiting for the shoe to drop, you kept waiting (and thinking) we can’t hold on to this,” he says. “It just seemed- day-after-day, week-after-week and then month-after-month- you were just in that high pressure area.”
Phillips says the lack of precipitation in July and August was a concern, but luckily there was enough in May and June to carry us through.
Friday is the last full day of summer for 2018.
