Charges withdrawn against suspect in firearms case

A man facing a number of charges in relation to a firearms complaint in Inverness Co. has had those charges withdrawn.

Robert MacDonald, 21, was charged with a number of offences, including possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, assault with a weapon and break-and-enter.

The Port Hastings man, whose case opened in court in Aug. 2017, was referred to the province’s Restorative Justice Program in January; he successfully completed the program, and his charges were withdrawn during a status update in Port Hawkesbury Provincial Court Monday.

Police say they received a call a man pointed a firearm at someone at a home in Port Hastings in July 2017.

They say they determined it was a pellet gun.
