MacQuarrie wins special election

Blaine MacQuarrie has won the Town of Port Hawkesbury‘s special election.

MacQuarrie, a social worker, finished with 476 votes; Dave Ryan was second with 359 votes.

Michelle Tabensky finished third with 289 votes; Maris Freimanis was fourth with 103 votes.

Voter turnout was roughly 45 per cent; voting took place from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday.

MacQuarrie will be sworn in as the town’s fourth councillor at the regular council meeting Jan. 8.
