Forecaster says “major” low pressure system coming our way

A meteorologist with Environment Canada says we’re in for a messy mix of weather Sunday into Monday.

Ian Hubbard says it’s hard to pinpoint precipitation amounts at this point, because it’s too early.

Hubbard tells The Hawk a major low pressure system is pushing up toward the Quad Counties.

“We’re going to start to see some snow in the area, probably beginning mid-morning or by noon anyway,” he says. “As the day progresses, that could change over to some freezing rain- (that’s) looking like a very good possibility- in the afternoon, and then temperatures will warm up as the day goes on.”

Hubbard says rain should start by the evening, and it will be heavy for some time overnight Sunday into Monday.

He says cold temperatures will return by the start of the work week.

“We’re going to see a temperature drop as the winds come around from the north and bring in a lot of cool air for Monday,” he says. “We’re going to expect to see some flurries sometime during the day on Monday, anyway, and then get back into that cooler regime that we’ve been seeing the last few days.”

Hubbard says we can expect the cold temperatures to stick around for at least a few days.

He says temperatures likely won’t be back above the freezing mark until Wednesday or Thursday.
