Well-known drug bust suspect expected back in court

A man with a lengthy criminal history arrested in relation to a drug bust in Inverness Co. is scheduled to return to court Monday.

RCMP say they seized cocaine, oxycodone and drug paraphernalia when they searched a home in Sugar Camp in December.

Joshua Donald Nicholson, 32, has been charged with possession and three breaches.

The federal Crown in the case says Nicholson was released on extremely strict conditions following his bail hearing in December; he’s expected for an election-and-plea hearing in Port Hawkesbury Provincial Court.

Nicholson has another set of charges currently before the courts- he was also arrested following an April bust in Sugar Camp, and is scheduled for a preliminary inquiry in that case in March.

He’s had numerous run-ins with the law in the past; he pleaded guilty to assault, uttering threats and a drug count, and was sentenced to 18 months’ probation, 12 hours community service and a fine in relation to a Dec. 2016 incident.

He was also sentenced to 90 days in jail and six months’ probation after he pleaded guilty to assault with a weapon following a bear spray incident in Port Hawkesbury in 2012.
