Councillors pass new strategic plan for Richmond Co.

Municipal councillors in Richmond Co. have approved a new strategic plan.

They voted 4-1 in favour of the 2019-2024 plan at January’s regular municipal council meeting Monday night.

Jason MacLean, the warden of the municipality, says highlights include economic development, tourism, and recreation and community programs and development.

MacLean tells The Hawk those are the three main areas, but there’s a lot more to the plan.

“There are other things that we want to be a part of and assist in moving forward,” he says. “(We’re) just trying to make everything a better place for Richmond Co., and all of our residents.”

MacLean says quite a bit of time and effort went into the 95-page document.

He says there wasn’t a lot of expense.

“We didn’t have to bring somebody in, outside of a writer, to sort of put things together- we didn’t have to hire any type of consultant, or bring in any kind of strategic plan expert to come in and do that work,” he says. “One of the absolute strengths of our CAO is just working along those regards.”

MacLean says the CAO, municipal staff members and councillors put a lot of work into the process.

He says residents provided input through public consultation sessions throughout the county, and through an online survey.
