Skatepark proponents host public consultation session

Members of the Antigonish Skatepark Association say they want your help to design the new facility in the town.

They’re hosting public sessions, the first of which takes place at St. Andrew Junior School at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The skatepark, a partnership involving the town and county of Antigonish, StFX and the local skatepark association, will be on West St.; it will be 13,000 square feet.

Jason Mason, the association’s spokesperson, told The Hawk Morning Show New Line Skateparks had the winning bid for the project’s construction and design, and they couldn’t be happier.

“This park means a lot to them,” he said. “We talked to them, and it means as much to them as it does to us, which I think is really cool.”

Mason said company reps create great skateparks, and he was pleased they put in the best bid.

He said they’re still fundraising for the project.

“We’re pulling together our funding, we still do need donations, and we need people to participate and buy our products- the t-shirts, the hats, the tank tops, the hoodies,” he said. “All that goes toward the skatepark- all the money stays in Antigonish.

Mason said Wednesday’s session is the first of two public consultations.
