MLA says some residents feel roads are not plowed enough

The MLA for Inverness says some of his constituents don’t think their roads are plowed enough.

Allan MacMaster says he reviewed the issue, and records indicate plow activity is higher than average, but residents were watching the snow plow tracker online, and information wasn’t accurate.

He says officials with the province’s transportation department told him that’s because of GPS network issues, weak cell phone coverage and the geography of northern Inverness Co.

MacMaster tells The Hawk the plows have set routes.

“There is a plow running on an 80-kilometre loop, at which point it usually goes through that loop again,” he says. “Past that, they would start to do secondary roads.”

MacMaster says there are four snow plows in the area in question.

He says he reviewed the snow plow logs, which indicated the Cheticamp plows were out as much as other equipment, but there’s still room for improvement.

“I posed the question to the minister by way of letter to ask him to review northern Inverness Co., and the resources that are available for plowing of roads.”

MacMaster says some residents felt not enough salt was being used, and the roads were not plowed enough.

He says DOT officials are working on getting trackers on all their snow plows repaired.
