Antigonish drug bust suspects found guilty

A judge has found two men arrested following a drug bust in Antigonish guilty.

Police say members of the Antigonish/Guysborough RCMP Street Crime Enforcement Unit searched a home on Hawthorne St. in Nov. 2017.

They say officers seized a large amount of cocaine, marijuana and cash.

Two Antigonish men were charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Michael Charles Benoit, 50, of Antigonish and Coty Weston Leblanc, 24, made their first court appearances in the case in Jan. 2018; they were committed to stand trial by judge alone in Nova Scotia Supreme Court following preliminary inquiries in Antigonish Provincial Court in April.

Their trial opened in September and continued in October, and finished in January; the judge in the case delivered a guilty verdict Friday.

Benoit and Leblanc are scheduled to return to court for sentencing May 22.
