Local sports preview (Tuesday)

The StFX women’s hockey team can win the AUS title- and advance to nationals- when they host the St. Thomas Tommies in game two of the conference final.

The X-Women won the opening game of the best-of-three series 4-0 in Fredericton Sunday night.

Puck drop at the Keating Centre in Antigonish is 7 p.m.

An X-Women loss, and the series returns to Fredericton for a third and deciding game Thursday night.

The Dalbrae Dragons play a one-game qualifier for the chance to advance to the NSSAF Div. 2 boys hockey championship.

The Dragons take on the Barrington Barons in Truro at 3 p.m.

The winner advances to provincials in the Valley, which get underway Friday; the loser’s season is done.

The last qualifying team will be joined by the Richmond Academy Hurricanes and Inverness-Baddeck Academy Rebels, who advanced following regionals in Port Hood Sunday.

The Halifax Mooseheads continue a five-game road trip when they visit the Gatineau Olympiques in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

The Mooseheads (45-14-3), who have lost back-to-back games but are ranked fifth in the country, are third in the 18-team league with 93 points, six points behind Drummondville for second, and a point ahead of fourth-place Baie-Comeau; the Olympiques (22-34-6) are 13th with 50 points.

It’s the second and final regular season game between the teams; Halifax won the first at home 7-2 in February.

Game time is 8:30 p.m.
