Charges dismissed in Inverness Co. drug bust case

A man arrested after a traffic stop in Inverness Co. has had his drug charges dismissed.

RCMP say officers conducted a traffic stop on Hwy. 104 in Port Hastings in Aug. 2017.

They say they searched a vehicle, and found dexamphetamine, codeine, other drug paraphernalia and brass knuckles.

Sean Dale Simon, 37, of Port Hawkesbury was charged with a pair of possession for the purpose of trafficking counts, two weapons-related offences and three breaches.

Simon, who made his first court appearance in the case shortly after his arrest and was released on conditions, was scheduled to resume his trial on the drug charges in Nova Scotia Supreme Court in Port Hawkesbury Wednesday.

Instead, a recent charter ruling found his arrest and detention on the drug counts unlawful, so the Crown called no evidence, and the judge dismissed them; he’s expected to have a trial date set for the weapons charges and breaches March 25.
