The last day of March will also be the last day at the Eastern Strait Regional Enterprise Network.
They will close their doors on March 31st and seven staff members will lose their jobs.
The REN is a partnership in economic development among a broader group of municipal partners.
The closure comes after Antigonish town and county, Town of Port Hawkesbury, The Municipality of the District of Saint Mary’s and Guysborough officials voted to leave the REN.
Mulgrave officials also said they wouldn’t be joining.
Eastern Strait REN CEO John Beaton says seven employees will lose their jobs including himself.
Beaton tells The Hawk they are looking at what steps will take place before they close.
“I’ll be working with a committee of municipalities in the REN to begin doing our asset management and looking for what steps need to happen next, what projects need to be transitioned and so on” he said. “That process is expected to take a bit of time before we are officially closed.”
Beaton says they will finish up any current jobs.
Beaton says they saw the closure coming.
“Naturally it’s a bit disappointing but not unexpected for sure given the status of the other members in the REN.”
The Eastern Strait REN will close the doors on March 31st and after that the wind down process will begin.
