Local sports preview (Saturday)

The Cabot Highlanders will try to stay alive in the Nova Scotia Minor Midget AAA Hockey League playoffs.

They visit the Basin Armada in East Hants.

The Armada won the opening game of the best-of-three series 3-0 in Port Hawkesbury March 23; the winner of the series advances to provincials.

Game time is 6 p.m.

A third and deciding game- if necessary- will be in East Hants Sunday morning.

 

The Cape Breton West Islanders are hosting midget AA female hockey provincials at the Al MacInnis Sports Centre in Port Hood.

Five teams are taking part- the host Islanders, Pictou, Colchester, Metro East and Metro West.

Cape Breton West started with a record of 1-0-1.

Round-robin play, which got underway Friday, continues with Cape Breton West meeting Metro East at 8:30 a.m.; the Islanders take on Colchester at 12:30 p.m.

The top two teams advance to the championship game Sunday morning.

 

The Antigonish Rural League final gets underway.

The Pleasantdale Panthers play the Heatherton Warriors in the opening game of the best-of-seven series.

Pleasantdale won their first-round series against St. Croix in seven games to advance; Heatherton eliminated the County Outlaws in five games in the opening round to advance.

Puck drop at the Antigonish Arena is 7 p.m.

 

The Halifax Mooseheads will try for their first series lead when they visit the Quebec Remparts in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League playoffs.

The Remparts won the opening two games of the best-of-seven, first-round series in Halifax March 22-23; the Mooseheads evened the series at two with wins in games three and four in Quebec Tuesday and Thursday.

Game time is 8 p.m.

Whoever wins will have a chance to advance to the second round when the series returns to Halifax for game six Monday night.
