The chair of the Canso Area Development Association says they want Maritime Launch Services to build the Spaceport in Guysborough Co.
Maritime Launch Services reps submitted their proposal for environmental assessment in July 2018.
Government experts raised environmental concerns about the project.
Harold Roberts, the chair of the Canso Area Development Association says they started collecting signatures for a petition in support of the project.
Roberts tells The Hawk they want as many signatures as possible.
“There’s no quota for signatures but however on our own level we would like to get as many as we can” he said. “Between now and the 15th we hope to gather as many signatures as we possibly can.”
Roberts says the petition will go to the local MLA by April 15th.
Roberts says a spaceport would be great for the local economy.
“This is a way the community can once again show its support and endorsement of this most vital project” he said. “It has so much potential for job creation; both part time, full time employment and the other direct and indirect jobs that would come with such a project.”
Roberts says signing the petition is a way local residents can show support for the project.
