Guysborough municipal councillors have approved a tender for a landfill project.
Councillors awarded the roughly $3 million contract for the construction of cell #5 at their municipal landfill to reps with Nova Construction during April’s regular municipal council meeting Wednesday afternoon.
After the meeting, Vernon Pitts, Guysborough’s warden, said he expects things to move quickly now.
“I believe there’s a pre-construction meeting coming up that’ll be taking place in the next week-to-10 days,” he said. “Following that, they will be floating their equipment on the site, along with the personnel, and we’ll get this project underway.”
Pitts said they hope to have the project finished by the fall.
He said municipal officials also applied for infrastructure funding from the other levels of government for their new compost facility at the landfill.
