Town officials in Antigonish say they hope to have their 2019-20 budget passed in May.
The town’s new fiscal year started April 1.
Laurie Boucher, Antigonish’s mayor, tells The Hawk it’s still fairly early in the budget process.
“It’s probably in the hands of the administration right now from each department,” she says. “(It should) come to council by the end of April to have a quick look at, and then hopefully set the first or second week of May.”
Boucher says the goal is to increase services and improve infrastructure while maintaining competitive tax rates.
She says it’s too early to say what direction tax rates will go.
