Work on new accessible field underway

A baseball and softball field that will be more accessible is getting closer to becoming a reality.

Randy Crouse, the coordinator of Antigonish Challenger Baseball, says the project has been a great success with lots of local and outside support.

Crouse told The Hawk Morning Show support has been great all around.

“It snowballed to support from the town and the county and groups I never expected support from,” he said. “They came forward and wanted to be a part of it, so it was pretty amazing to see the process and see the plan.”

Crouse said representatives with the Toronto Blue Jays “Jays Care Foundation” donated $150,000, which helped with the total cost of close to $500,000.

He said he’s excited for the finished product.

“I’m pretty excited for everyone to see the finished product- not just for Challenger Baseball, but for minor softball, minor baseball, the high school field, junior high, elementary school, just the community in general to get down there and use it,” he said. “I think it’s going to be something that’s a goal for it to be a community field that everyone can use, no matter age, ability, or circumstances.”

Crouse said work on the field is scheduled to be completed by June, and it should be ready for use in July.
