Suspects in Inverness Co. drug case expected back in court

A man and woman facing drug charges following a traffic stop in Inverness Co. are scheduled to return to court Thursday.

RCMP say members of the Inverness-Richmond District Street Crime Enforcement Unit laid the charges after they stopped a car on Rte. 19 in Port Hastings in June 2017.

They say they arrested an Antigonish man and a Port Hastings woman after they seized roughly 50 grams of cocaine.

Police originally charged Gabriel Chaisson, 42, and Carol Taylor, 42, with trafficking cocaine and possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

The pair, who made their first appearance in the case the day after their arrests, had a charter hearing in August; the judge denied the application in October.

They’re expected for status updates in Port Hawkesbury Provincial Court; their trial is tentatively set to continue June 28.
