Protesters arrested at Liberal AGM

Two people have been released from custody after being arrested during a protest on May 24.

They were members of an Extinction Rebellion group protesting outside the Liberal AGM in Antigonish.

Organizer Patrick Yancey was one of the people arrested, in a video of the arrest he says the federal Liberals climate change measures are insufficient to prevent serious climate change.

Before the arrest, he repeatedly apologized for not following the police officers’ directions, but said it was necessary to bring attention to his cause.

Yancey says, Canada isn’t on track to reduce its carbon emissions enough to do its part to prevent a global average temperature increase of 2 degrees, which he says would be disastrous for the environment.

The two Extinction Rebellion group members were released, with charges dropped, shortly after the arrests.
