Mayor says more work needed on accessibility

Antigonish‘s mayor says town officials have to do more when it comes to accessibility.

Councillors heard a presentation on accessibility issues from Michelle Ashby and Anne Camozzi, two members of the St. James United Church Social Justice Committee, at June’s regular town council meeting Monday night.

After, Laurie Boucher, the mayor of the town, said members of their accessibility committee have made some improvements, but there’s still more to do.

“Now we can try to sit back and look at a plan, over the next few years, on how to make this town more accessible, to not only people that live within our town, but to county people that patronize our businesses and use our downtown, (and) also tourists coming in.”

Boucher said the things that were done needed to happen right away.

She said they plan to tackle other areas of concern as part of their accessibility plan.
