Suspect in Antigonish pepper spray attack expected back in court in August

A teen arrested following a pepper spray attack in Antigonish has had his case adjourned.

RCMP say the incident, which started as a verbal argument, escalated to a physical assault on Notre Dame Ave. in March 2018.

They say three young men pepper sprayed two other young men, who were taken to hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say three teens were arrested and released from custody on strict conditions.

A boy, 17, from Nyanza, who can’t be identified because of his age, faces two counts of assault causing bodily harm; he had his case referred to Restorative Justice in October.

He was scheduled for a status hearing in Antigonish Youth Court Wednesday; he’s expected back for another update Aug. 14.

Police didn’t proceed with charges against a 17-year-old from Baddeck and an 18-year-old from St. Joseph du Moine.
