Strait Area Women’s Place funding nearly tripled

Funding for the Strait Area Women’s Place has nearly tripled.

At an event Wednesday, Minister Kelly Regan announced $135,000 of provincial funding will be added to Nova Scotia’s current $70,000 annual contribution, bringing total provincial funding for the Strait Area Women’s Place to just over $205,000.

Marina Martens, Executive Director of the Leeside Society, which operates the Strait Area Women’s Place, says they’re grateful for the additional support.

“It’s wonderful,” she says. “We wouldn’t have been able to keep doing this if we hadn’t, because we’d been relying on fundraising to keep the doors open.”

The new funding brings the Strait Area Women’s Place in line with similar women’s centres in Nova Scotia.
