Alberta gas company purchased by proposed Goldboro LNG developer

A company planning on building a liquefied natural gas plant in Guysborough County says it is buying a significant natural gas asset from western Canada.

Pieridae Energy says it is going to buy the Canadian arm of Royal Dutch Shell for $190 million.

The company’s CEO, Alfred Sorensen, says they require the Alberta natural gas supply to meet a condition of the German government’s support for the proposed Goldboro LNG project.

The proposed $10 billion project is estimated to be able to provide 10 million tonnes of super-cooled liquefied natural gas each year, mainly for export to European customers.
