Port Hawkesbury hired PR firm to have voice heard in Ottawa

The mayor of Port Hawkesbury says a PR firm hired by the town to support their lobbying efforts is an important part of having their voice heard.

Mayor Brenda Chisholm-Beaton says, the Ottawa based, government relations firm Proof Strategies had the lobbying expertise required.

Chisholm-Beaton tells The Hawk, the town wants to be certain Ottawa knows the town is opposed to a proposed Inverness airport, which would primarily bring tourists to Cabot Links and Cabot Cliffs golf courses during the tourist season.

“Through their connections they were able to ensure that our letter, that was written to the Prime Minister’s office, was expedited,” she says. “A little bit more so than through the usual channels.”

Chisholm-Beaton says Port Hawkesbury’s airport committee and council agreed to hire the firm.

She says the firm is paid for through the Allan J. MacEachen Port Hawkesbury Airport’s reserve fund.
